George Lawson Gallery Books
With the move to Los Angeles, we’ve stepped up our publishing program. Working with Ben Zlotkin’s Edition One Group in Berkeley, specialists in short run printing, we’ve honed our design and production to the point where we are able to cost-effectively produce wonderful limited edition books. We have plans to release a project a month into 2012.
Just back from the printer in time for her opening next week is our 100 page catalog of Sara Bright’s work on paper from 2010 and 2011. We are wrapping up pre-press on Susan Mikula’s 145 page book, documenting herAmerican Bond, a cycle of Polaroid images from the last three years, and due for release in time for her opening in October. Set for a November release is an expanded version of our earlier catalog of Judith Belzer’s painting, now in design. The 125 page expanded edition of Marie Thibeault’s catalog, with earlier and later works added, as well as drawings and archival reviews, is almost complete and due for release in December. Planned for release in early 2012 are books to be announced documenting the work of other GLG artists.
For reservations and inquiries, post here or contact the gallery.

SARA BRIGHT AT GEORGE LAWSON GALLERY
New Paintings, September 14 – October 15, 2011

We have moved the gallery from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Inaugurating our first Fall season in the new Culver City space, we are pleased to be showing recent paintings by New York-based artist Sara Bright. This will be Bright's first show with the gallery. Her oils on linen are characterized by rich gestural paint and evocative, symbolic content, and straddle the traditional boundaries between abstraction and figuration. Bright received her MFA from UC Berkeley after studying at Wesleyan and the Skowhegan School. Her work has been shown in New York, the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles at venues including the Berkeley Art Museum and UCLA's Wight Gallery. The exhibition will be accompanied by the release of a 100-page illustrated catalog showcasing Bright's works on paper, with commentary by Jana Blankenship, curator at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco.

Please join us for a celebration launching the new gallery and a reception for Sara Bright, at the gallery on Saturday, September 17, from 5:30 to 7:30.
