SARA BRIGHT AT GEORGE LAWSON GALLERY
New Paintings, September 14 – October 15, 2011

We have moved the gallery from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Inaugurating our first Fall season in the new Culver City space, we are pleased to be showing recent paintings by New York-based artist Sara Bright. This will be Bright's first show with the gallery. Her oils on linen are characterized by rich gestural paint and evocative, symbolic content, and straddle the traditional boundaries between abstraction and figuration. Bright received her MFA from UC Berkeley after studying at Wesleyan and the Skowhegan School. Her work has been shown in New York, the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles at venues including the Berkeley Art Museum and UCLA's Wight Gallery. The exhibition will be accompanied by the release of a 100-page illustrated catalog showcasing Bright's works on paper, with commentary by Jana Blankenship, curator at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco.

Please join us for a celebration launching the new gallery and a reception for Sara Bright, at the gallery on Saturday, September 17, from 5:30 to 7:30.
